Yesterday I had a stuck problem with WLM = Windows Live Messenger ..
I couldn’t use it all the night and I really needed it …
so I tried to find out what’s the problem
I saved the error code which I had .. it was
Error code : 80048820
Extended error code : 80048420
None of the following was useful at all :
First, I thought it’s a Network problem :
- I checked my network, it was working properly.
- I tried to open messenger using another computer, it worked and I signed in.
Second, I thought about cookies or program error :
- I troubleshooted the messenger, everything was working properly.
- I deleted cookies.
- I used Pidgin “an open source program which is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once.”
- I uninstalled Windows Live Messenger 9.0 , and reinstalled another copy which is 8.1
Third, I googled and found these causes :
1) Incorrect Proxy Setting for Internet Explorer.“I did n’t have a proxy settings in the first place”
2) softpub.dll may have become unregistered. ” Making it registered again wasn’t useful’.
3) Your system clock may be showing an incorrect time - or date! (Wrong time is the most likely cause of 80048820).” I updated the time from Date & Time properties >>Internet time >>update now via time.window.com “
4) Firewall problems. Particularly with Netgear.“I was using Zone Alarm 7 , I turned it off”.
Here is the whole article about the previous causes and their solutions.
Fourth, after deep googling I found these two links :
- First link is from Microsoft to check if the whole service is woking properly :
http://messenger.msn.com/Status.aspx
- Second link is also from Microsoft, it’s a batch file to repair the register DLL files in the messenger:
http://www.msn-problems.com/downloads/register-messenger-dll-files.bat
As I told you before nothing of this was helpful or useful .. I just stopped searching for a while ..
Today morning I tried to sign in .. the same result .. but after few times trying to sign in …
WOW here Iam signed in .. really I don’t know what happened or how this happened .. it’s Microsoft baby .. expect everything ..
Have a nice day … using your messengers
In such situations, it’s better to use any of the online IM services (e.g. ebuddy.com) till your problem get solved.
Well I’ve great experince in WLM
the first step is Toubleshooting
the second step is testing the connection
some times if dou don’t use internet explorer it refuse to connect
some times you have to use Ultra Surf
some times you have to Reboot
After All You can use some web messenger like iloveim.com
at least it was solved
in some how I blame the ISP for that , because some problems in the network ” from the ISP side” will result connection problems for WLM in your side .
